  • Phase One – Community vision and criteria setting, July 2019 to November 2020

    by Dinuki,

We are working with our community, stakeholders and regional leaders to gather ideas, set a community vision and determine criteria to assess ideas and options for our water future.

We want to understand all the ways our community values water and make sure this forms the basis of future planning and decisions.

    September 2019 to September 2020
We are asking people to contribute their views and ideas for how we might use water and where our water may come from in the future.

We are doing this by sharing information and collecting views and ideas online, as well as speaking to people at community 'pop-up' events and workshops across the region.

    October to November 2020
We will bring together a panel of randomly selected, broadly representative community members to consider all views from the wider engagement. They will set the community vision for our water future, and make recommendations about success criteria.

The recommendations made by the panel will ensure the community’s views and values are at the centre of the process.

We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community.

  • Phase Two – Options and ideas assessment, December 2020 to March 2021

    by Bernadette Collins,

With our community, we will work through options to consider for our new Urban Water Strategy.

    December 2020 to January 2021
We will assess the ideas we’ve heard against the community vision and criteria. Our technical experts will also evaluate the ideas and provide expert advice. We will also seek advice from independent technical experts.

    December 2020 to January 2021
We are inviting everyone across our region to share their views on the long list of ideas and options, with respect to the community vision and criteria.

    February 2021 to March 2021
We will bring the community panel back together to consider the results of the technical assessment and all views from the wider engagement. The panel will weigh up options and make recommendations on ideas and options that meet criteria and can deliver the vision.

We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community.

  • Phase Three – Urban Water Strategy development, April 2021 to December 2021

    by Bernadette Collins,

We will draft our 2022 Urban Water Strategy, which will take into account the community panel's recommendations. We will also check back in with the community.

    April 2021 to July 2021
We will undertake a technical assessment of the community panel’s recommendations, including costs, to understand which ideas are possible.

    August 2021 to September 2021
We will set out the actions we will take in response to the community’s recommendations in the draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy - our long term plan for ensuring a sustainable, affordable and reliable water future for our community and environment.

    September 2021 to November 2021
The community will be invited to review and provide feedback on the Draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy.

    December 2021
We will bring the community panel back together to consider all views from the wider engagement and the Draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy and make recommendations based on their review.

We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community.

  • Phase Four – Strategy finalisation and feedback, January 2022 to December 2022

    by Bernadette Collins,

    January 2022 to March 2022

We will consider the feedback received in phase three and use it to develop the final 2022 Urban Water Strategy, which will clearly say what work needs to be done to secure our region's water future.

These actions will be reflected in the development of our 2023 Price Submission – our process for determining what our customers pay for water across a five year period.

    December 2022 and ongoing
Every year, we will provide updates on the status of actions, progress and the work to be done for the following 12 months.
