Consultation has concluded
Water is a vital part of our everyday lives. When it comes to thinking about water for our future, we can all make an important contribution.
Water for our Future is our program to partner with the community, stakeholders and regional leaders to design a new water future for our region.
Through this engagement process we are not just relying on our expertise. We want to draw on the insights, experiences and ideas of people from across our region to create a water future that harnesses the value of water to support liveable and prosperous communities and a healthy environment for years to come.

Phase One – Community vision and criteria setting, July 2019 to November 2020

We are doing this by sharing information and collecting views and ideas online, as well as speaking to people at community 'pop-up' events and workshops across the region.October to November 2020We will bring together a panel of randomly selected, broadly representative community members to consider all views from the wider engagement. They will set the community vision for our water future, and make recommendations about success criteria.The recommendations made by the panel will ensure the community’s views and values are at the centre of the process.We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community. -
Phase Two – Options and ideas assessment, December 2020 to March 2021

We will assess the ideas we’ve heard against the community vision and criteria. Our technical experts will also evaluate the ideas and provide expert advice. We will also seek advice from independent technical experts.December 2020 to January 2021
We are inviting everyone across our region to share their views on the long list of ideas and options, with respect to the community vision and criteria.February 2021 to March 2021We will bring the community panel back together to consider the results of the technical assessment and all views from the wider engagement. The panel will weigh up options and make recommendations on ideas and options that meet criteria and can deliver the vision.We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community.

Phase Three – Urban Water Strategy development, April 2021 to December 2021

We will undertake a technical assessment of the community panel’s recommendations, including costs, to understand which ideas are possible.August 2021 to October 2021
We will set out the actions we will take in response to the community’s recommendations in the draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy - our long term plan for ensuring a sustainable, affordable and reliable water future for our community and environment.November 2021 to January 2022The community will be invited to review and provide feedback on the Draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy.November 2021We will bring the community panel back together to consider all views from the wider engagement and the Draft 2022 Urban Water Strategy and make recommendations based on their review.We will report the outcomes of the panel back to the community. -
Phase Four – Strategy finalisation and feedback, January 2022 to December 2022

We will consider the feedback received in phase three and use it to develop the final 2022 Urban Water Strategy, which will clearly say what work needs to be done to secure our region's water future.These actions will be reflected in the development of our 2023 Price Submission – our process for determining what our customers pay for water across a five year period.

Every year, we will provide updates on the status of actions, progress and the work to be done for the following 12 months.
